The following is a transcript of my conversation with Micah this morning. A bunch of rural schools closed due to the cold weather and snow from yesterday. All major schools in the city and burbs had school today. I think Micah wants to move somewhere rural now.
Micah: Do we have school today?
Me: Yes, I just saw the high school bus come by.
Micah: How could they do this to us? Maybe it’s just the high school that has school today.
Me: No, the entire district has school or else I would have received a phone call by now.
Micah: (Checking the website to see school closings since he still doesn’t believe me.) Remember how one time my elementary school didn’t have school but other schools did, we should check individually because maybe middle school is out today.
Me: I would have received a phone call about that by now and it would be on the school district website.
Micah: It’s too cold to go to school. I can’t believe they are making us go.
Me: You’ll be fine. Just bundle up. You’ll only be at the bus stop a couple minutes. Maybe you should change out of your short sleeve t-shirt if it is too cold.
Micah: It’s SO hot at school. One of my teachers keeps the thermostat at like 85 degrees.
Me: (Running out of anything positive to say here.)
Micah: Do I feel hot to you? You should probably take my temperature.
Me: No, you don’t feel hot.
Micah: You should probably take my temperature just in case.
Me: (After taking his temperature) You are at 97 degrees, you’re fine.
Micah: My knee hurts, I can barely walk on it.
Me: You laid around all weekend playing on your new iPod Touch. How could you possibly have injured your knee?
Micah: I don’t know. I think I hurt it getting out of bed. I can barely walk.
Me: (Trying to get him to stop grumping) You only have 8 days of school left then you have a week and a half off.
Micah: Last year we had two weeks off. I can’t believe we only have a week and a half off this year. We barely had a summer. I heard a song once about having 104 days of summer. That’s not fair that we don’t have that many days of summer. Is there more snow in the forecast this week so that maybe we can have a snow day?
Me: I give up.
Happy Monday, my friends!
