Today is our one year "Gotcha" anniversary which is adoption speak for our one year adoption anniversary. The beginning of a new school year, in combination with this anniversary inspired me to write an entry on things I love about my kiddos right now.
Let's start with Micah. Micah just entered sixth grade which is middle school here. Throughout his life I have joked with Tony that we might have to consider boarding school for junior high because that age has always bothered me. But can I just say I am loving this time in Micah's life! I spent too many years worrying about what this age would bring. I know we are just at the very beginning of middle school, but right now I have a fun, funny, considerate child who has lots more reign over his temper and attitude than he did a couple years ago. Micah loves learning new things and has a new hobby each month, from teaching himself to solve the Rubik's Cube to learning how to play the french horn. We keep joking that he should have been born in the 80's due to his love of Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, mohawks and the aforementioned Rubiks' Cube. He is fun to play games with, although he is beginning to beat me all too often. I'm not sure why my IQ has taken such a beating while my kids' IQ goes up. I still worry a bit about the hit that innocence often takes during these years, but we will pray for his protection and wisdom and know that God is watching him. Right now, Micah loves baseball, bicycling, spending time with family and friends, Wii, math, his little brother, reading mysteries and sci-fi. He has adjusted well to his first week in a new school with most of his friends in other classes. Micah is still affectionate and caring. I cherish every hug and snuggle right now because I know those times might not last.
On to the red-head. Elise just changed schools as well and is acting like nothing happened. I really expected some drama because our girl can kick in the drama when she wants, but she has done great. Elise enjoys pretend play, making up stories, watching Disney shows, playing with neighborhood friends, doing gymnastics and soccer. She has always been able to entertain herself with pretend play for hours. Elise has been bringing out some drama lately. I catch her trying out facial expressions in the mirror and she likes to show me what face she made when someone made her mad, sad, excited, etc. I love her creativity, her snuggling, her care for Isaiah, and her eclectic ensemble outfits and accessories. Elise likes to snuggle and read together. She is becoming pretty tender-hearted and sensitive. Our danger baby of long ago has become pretty cautious about trying new or scary things, but after being too frightened at the pool at the beginning of the summer, she is now a pro at diving boards and water slides again. Elise loves to have an audience and tell LONG stories with lots of detail.
Isaiah has had a rough few weeks with an undiagnosed illness that lasted too long because he couldn't tell us what was wrong. I find myself too often sharing what is hard with him and not celebrating what is fun about him right now so let's explore his unique positives. Isaiah laughs easily and heartily at anything that looks "amiss," whether that is a hat turned backwards on Micah's head or my hair falling in front of my face. He will laugh until he is literally not breathing and sometimes falls over from laughing. It builds all of our egos to think we are such stand up comedians. In the past few months, Isaiah has begun to frequently crawl into our laps, give us spontaneous big hugs with sound effects, ask for kisses after a bath, and pat our backs like we pat his. Isaiah has a strong will which makes discipline harder, but also makes it possible for him to push his body to do things that are difficult for him. His maneuvering of his walker is through true will power. Isaiah LOVES big noises and busy atmospheres. Isaiah makes it through an entire meal with us now which is much nicer than when he barely ate and meals were struggles. He loves his big sister and brother. Over the summer while we have all been home together, he began to say their names every time they walk in a room or even if he hears their door open.
Pretty fun to list off the blessings of the little people in my life.

That was fun to read. I'd say you summed up those kids just perfectly. I can't believe how old they are getting. Isaiah always make me feel funny, too. Elise does NOT need to practice making face. She makes them well on-the-spot! (maybe that's why she's so good at it--she's been practicing)
